Alas, not a software problem

Flashed the router last night. DD-WRT is really nice, but it seems to be a hardware fault -- same spotty connectivity.

Bought a new router. So far so good, but it's only been a few minutes. :)

For all the trouble, are you sure there isn't a problem on the provider end? (regardless of them denying that there might be one).

Who is your provider, and what's the setup? (the question is mainly applicable if it's DSL).

I did blame them, which is why the loaner modem -- they did attempt some debugging on their end too, and helped me try some stuff on my end.

But yeah, the end result is that it turns out

(a) my laptop is dying (which is why trying without the router initially didn't solve the problem)
(b) my regular router was dying
(c) my backup router, which had just been reflashed, is also dying (might be why I accidentally bricked it originally...)

I only figured this all out when I finally started trying to debug from my desktop machine instead of the laptop.

Thus far, the new router is doing the trick. I'm gonna give it another day or so before I declare it "fixed" though, since this was always a sporadic problem.
